Founder Tamara Leuty started her fashion journey in Dallas, Texas as a hair and make-up stylist for advertising and fashion catalogs. In 1991, she made a major shift and relocated to New York, where she made the jump into fashion and advertising photography.
In 2010 Tamara Leuty began the product development with research and conceptual planning for a solution to a problem that had tormented every handbag owner since their invention, a integrated light system that allows you to see what’s inside your bag. Finally in 2011, she created the first prototype for Glass Handbag. Readied with ideas, sketches, and a plan, Tamara and partner Chris Nelson initiated the manufacturing process and launched Glass Handbag in 2012.
Today, Tamara functions as CEO and Designer of Glass Handbag Inc., overseeing creation, production, and distribution of every purse sold by the company. Committed to accessorizing the world with a stylish and functional handbag. Tamara has stayed true to her roots in fashion, contributing an innovative product to the fashion industry.
Luxury designer handbags with integrated lighting system. Glass Handbag introduces a concept that has been sought after for decades—with many failed solutions along the way. Handbag owners have perpetually struggled with navigating the contents of their purse in dark settings and Glass Handbag Inventor & CEO Tamara Leuty grew frustrated at the absence of a practical solution.
As a fashion photographer since the early 90s, Tamara witnessed firsthand the many failed attempts to introduce lighting solutions to handbag design. Heat, durability, and bulb breakage potential all led to the demise of every attempt any manufacturer made to provide a solution to the dark purse problem. In 2008, Tamara recognized the opportunity to make it happen and put her plan in motion. Light technology had finally advanced to the point that a lightweight, non-breakable, no-heat illumination system could be integrated into fabric. She began conceptualizing original designs for every handbag in our catalog, focusing on quality and style, while researching the requirements to bring her dream to life. After creating the first prototype by hand, Tamara began her quest for the proper materials, manufacturers, and distribution options to make it happen. After about two years in development, Glass Handbag launched in 2010 featuring a line of distinct, high-quality handbags featuring a integrated lighting system.
Glass Handbag is committed to style and quality, as well as form and function. Our patented design is featured in every product we create, once and for all solving the riddle of where things are hiding in your bag.
